Supervisor reports trail use data, sewer permitting delay and park improvements

Supervisor Jim Jones delivered an extensive report touching on parks, trails, sewer and intergovernmental meetings. He said the Upper Hudson Trail Alliance installed counters in three spots and reported 17,023 counts between July 21 and Sept. 1; the board exchanged clarifying comments about whether the figure was 1,700 or 17,023. The supervisor said the counts indicate the trails are heavily used by hikers, dog walkers and mountain bikers.
On sewer infrastructure, the supervisor said the project has DEC technical approval and USDA technical approval but remains delayed because USDA attorneys are still reviewing documents; "Everything is ready to go to bid," he said, and "It's a matter of just a couple of days." He also thanked state partners and Orta representatives for productive meetings about investment in Skeeball Park and said work at park entrances (lighting and a waterfall) and playground completion were recent wins for the parks budget. The supervisor said the budget committee will look at highway contracts and health-insurance options in coming weeks.
