Planning Board Chair Linda Mott told the Junius Town Board on June 18 that the planning board recommends hiring Wendel Engineering to conduct a technical review of all Delaware River Solar documents and that the developer should provide a contract to cover legal and engineering fees.
Mott said the proposal is intended to ensure the town has professional engineering review available as it examines the Burgess Road Solar Project. The board’s attorney, Jeff Graff, has already reviewed the project and provided a list of recommendations for the board to consider. The minutes record that the board will review Mott’s proposed contract and Graff’s recommendations before any final action.
Why it matters: large-scale solar projects commonly involve engineering, legal and zoning issues that can affect land use, neighboring property and local infrastructure. The board did not take a formal vote to hire outside engineers at this meeting; the planning chair asked for review and the board agreed to examine the contract and attorney recommendations at a future meeting.
