Resident reports decades-long basement flooding; board approves up to $5,000 catch basin

Kathleen O’Brien, a Valley Drive resident, told the board she has experienced basement flooding since a June 2010 earthquake and has used as many as four sump pumps at once. She said French drains and PVC pipe were installed in 2011 as temporary measures and that high creek levels in spring and around Thanksgiving make flooding worse. Hunter Springs is scheduled to inspect her property on Sept. 17, 2024 to evaluate rerouting a pump line to a village-installed catch basin.
At New Business the board approved a request from Mayor Brim to install a catch basin on Valley Drive not to exceed $5,000. Deputy Mayor Gustafson moved and Trustee Stapleton seconded the funding approval; all present voted in favor. Superintendent Johnston and Frederick DiRisio have consulted with Ms. O’Brien previously and will coordinate follow-up with the contractor.
