Volunteers reported planting trees and shrubs at the Jewett Veterans Memorial and said additional landscaping and finishing touches will be completed before the town’s History Day event.
S5 gave a detailed account of the volunteer effort: Steve Canfield purchased two sugar red maples and several volunteers dug holes, donated black dirt and water, and planted about a dozen or more shrubs. S5 said they would add fabric and black mulch along the memorial walkway and continue watering to encourage establishment.
S1 thanked volunteers for their time and expense and noted community appreciation for the memorial’s upkeep. S5 said Bill Jones and his grandsons helped spread mulch and that flags are placed on corners for Memorial Day.
What’s next: additional mulch and landscape fabric will be installed and the memorial will be dressed up ahead of the History Day celebration.
