Supervisor Greg said the credit-card policy follows guidance from the New York State Comptroller and the town's insurer and is intended to provide controls for personnel traveling or making purchases that cannot be paid by check. On the security policy, Greg read that keys remain town property, duplication is prohibited and lost or stolen keys must be reported; the policy allows the town to charge a $100 replacement fee, a figure discussed at the meeting after one board member proposed raising it to $1,000.
"I never thought 1,000, but I thought maybe 2," Greg said in response to the suggestion, explaining the board wanted to avoid imposing a punitive charge for an honest mistake. After brief discussion the board approved both policies and the security policy took effect immediately upon the vote.
