Director April Olson, Director of Curriculum & Student Learning, led the first read of proposed Policy IIA (Instructional Materials) and six accompanying Administrative Rules. Olson walked the board through detailed changes, emphasizing who selects materials, the process for reconsideration, and who makes decisions on appeals.
Board members engaged with Olson on the composition of the reconsideration committee and suggested clarifying language about committee membership; Olson said she would update the language and return the policy for a second read. Chair Shields reminded the group that the policy and AR are being presented as a first read and are not yet ready for adoption.
Because this was a first read, the board provided feedback but took no formal vote on adoption; staff will return with revised language and a recommended second-read timeline.
