Board approves consent agenda; accepts two resignations and hires new CTE science teacher

Milton-Freewater Unified SD 7’s board approved the consent agenda and then took action on personnel items at its meeting.

The board accepted certified resignations from Ashley May, described in the transcript as a science teacher at Central, and Rebecca Hare, described as a teacher at "Gibb Olenger Elementary School" in the transcript. Superintendent Duff said the district recommended accepting their resignations and the motion was moved, seconded and carried by voice vote. "I move to approve the certified resignation," Duff said; the board recorded the motion as carried.

The board also discussed a vacancy in the high-school science program after a recent resignation. Superintendent Duff explained the committee’s strategy to advertise the vacancy as a CTE/agricultural science position in order to recruit candidates able to teach both career-technical education and state-licensed science classes. The committee recommended hiring Piana Hare for the CTE science role; the board approved the hire by voice vote. "We had a very strong applicant pool," Duff said, describing the candidate’s agricultural-science background and pending licensure.
