The Medford SD 549C Board of Education decided Oct. 22 to invite three finalist firms for interviews as part of its superintendent search, scheduling those interviews for Oct. 24 via Zoom and assigning board members to complete reference checks by Oct. 27. Board Chair Kendell Ferguson summarized individual scoresheets and reported that one proposer, WBCP, received the lowest score among four submissions.
Assistant Superintendent of Operations Brad Earl told the board the proposal fees were within an acceptable range and emphasized the importance of selecting a firm that is a good fit for the district, saying the three remaining firms each had relevant experience. During the discussion board members noted that some proposals included outreach in the base fee while others listed community and staff outreach as add-ons, which the board said made direct price comparisons difficult without asking targeted questions during interviews.
Board Director Lilia Caballero exited the meeting before the final scheduling decision. The board determined that Hazard Young Attea and Associated (HYA), McPherson & Jacobson, LLC, and Ray & Associates would be contacted to arrange interviews on Oct. 24 and that assigned board members would complete reference checks prior to Oct. 27. With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 12:15 PM.
