Corvallis school board asks staff for a revised consolidation plan prioritizing staff retention

The Corvallis School District Board of Directors on Oct. 16 directed district staff to produce an updated consolidation proposal that demonstrates how additional closures could be structured to maximize staff retention and restore programs. The directive followed detailed presentations by Superintendent Ryan Noss and staff on community feedback, school capacity and an updated FAQ compiled from listening sessions and written comments.

Parents and staff urged the board to slow the process and present more complete options. Parent Shun Yamamoto told the board the current process appeared closed: "the consolidation process is predetermined, treating community input and alternatives as mere checks on a due diligence list." Board members discussed enrollment declines, noted smaller incoming classes (300–320) replacing larger cohorts (500+), and agreed that savings from closures should be evaluated against cultural and programmatic impacts. The board's consensus was procedural: staff must return a fleshed‑out proposal showing how staff retention and program restoration could be achieved.
