Jordan police to add license-plate reader and body cameras with $20,700 grant

Officer Healy told the board the Police Department received a $20,700 grant to fund a license-plate reader and other equipment. He said the department selected a reader from an existing vendor for about $17,000; the unit will take roughly 8–10 weeks to arrive and will be installed in the new patrol car while the old reader remains in the older vehicle.
Healy proposed using the remainder of the grant to acquire two body cameras. He said the cameras require a five-year subscription that covers damage replacement and that “this particular grant can not be used for tasers, ammunition, weapons…etc.” He also noted a separate quote for two new tasers that would require a five-year subscription at roughly $20,000, but said that the grant cannot fund those items.
Healy reported the new police vehicle is expected to be picked up Wednesday and placed into service the following week.
