Kinderhook economic-development update: new businesses, festival dates and a proposed veterans walkway

Economic Development Director Renee Shur told the board that Ghent Band concerts set local records with about 550 attendees across four shows and that two new businesses expect to open in October: Hamrah’s Lebanese food on Oct. 12 (coinciding with Fall Festival) and the Isola wine bar the week of Oct. 10. Shur said the village and local partners are pursuing SHPO tax-credit outreach and a potential informational event for business owners, residents and realtors.
Shur also proposed a veterans commemorative walkway in the village square where private individuals or sponsors could buy engraved granite pavers; the mayor and Trustee Quinn Murphy expressed support for exploring the privately funded concept. The board did not commit funding; the idea is for private sponsorship and further discussion about site condition (bluestone repair) and program specifics.
Trustees approved routine event applications, including park pavilion and hall uses and a street closure request for the Mini‑Renaissance Fair on Sept. 29. The economic‑development update focused on private investment and events intended to boost downtown activity this fall.
