Residents raise lawsuit transparency and neighborhood noise concerns during public comment

Two public speakers raised distinct neighborhood concerns at the Aug. 6 council meeting.
Laura Schultz asked the council to explain why it had voted to indemnify or otherwise handle a lawsuit she said arose after social-media posts and argued that councilmembers must remain neutral when acting in quasi-judicial matters. She read portions of the complaint alleging prejudicial social media posts and constituent blocking, and asked that the council agendize discussion about the lawsuit and indemnification. Mayor Bergson said the council could not discuss pending matters in the open session and suggested legal counsel provide a direct response to her questions outside the meeting.
Separately, Ken Alexander described repeated loud parties in a nearby residential area and said code enforcement and sheriff response had been insufficient on weekends; he asked staff to follow up. The mayor asked staff (Diane) to contact Mr. Alexander for follow-up and the council agreed to have staff pursue enforcement options.
