Kinderhook board approves $105,000 design amendment for William Street watermain project

The Kinderhook Village Board voted on Feb. 28 to proceed with a $105,000 engineering design amendment with Hudson Valley Engineering Associates to complete design work for a William Street watermain replacement project.
Trustee James Mark Browne presented the proposal, saying the work would “be the replacement of the 100 year old water line on William Street from Rt. 9 to Maiden Lane,” and outlined scope including HDPE pipe, RF meter installation, and repaving of William Street and Maiden Lane. The presentation said homeowners would be offered replacement of the water service into their homes during the project; the cost of service from the shutoff into a home would be charged back to the homeowner over the following two water billing cycles.
The board recorded a motion to enter executive session at 5:34 p.m. to discuss contracts, and subsequently approved the $105,000 design amendment; Mayor Dorene Weir moved the design amendment and Trustee Mark Browne seconded. The minutes record the board voting “aye” on the motion. The design phase is expected to precede construction scheduled for July 2025.
The project description in the minutes also identifies streetscape and utility elements: replacement of a non‑compliant 4‑ft sidewalk with turnaround spaces approximately every 250 feet, resetting of granite curbing, and (where necessary) removal of greenspace next to the roadway to provide additional width. The minutes note that telephone poles will not be removed or reset and that the engineer must address a drainage/water issue at the end of Maiden/William Street.
