ROTC summer training and NCSBA survey highlighted at board meeting

Mr. McGinnis briefed the board on ROTC activities: leadership training for cadets ran July 20–25, with 86 cadets in attendance and 22 from McDowell High; fundraising such as a recent car show raised about $1,200 to offset program costs. He encouraged greater parent involvement and noted cadet trips, including a planned November trip to Washington, D.C.
Mr. Baker, representing the North Carolina School Boards Association, asked members to complete an NCSBA legislative survey to inform the 2027–28 legislative agenda. He noted the survey deadline of Aug. 25, 2026, and reminded board members the delegate assembly will meet at the NCSBA annual conference in November in Greensboro.
