Jewett board votes to return to summary minutes, keeping motions verbatim

After members found large discrepancies in verbatim transcripts, the town board voted 4–1 to resume a concise summary minutes format while keeping motions and votes recorded verbatim and posting recordings online.
The Jewett town board voted to end a verbatim minute format and return to concise, summary-style minutes that capture key points, decisions and verbatim motions and votes. Committee member (S3) proposed the change after reviewing recordings and finding large gaps between audio and the written verbatim minutes.
"The change, aims to improve the accuracy and usability of the minutes, making them more concise and easier to review," S3 said, arguing that summary minutes would save staff time while recordings remain available for those who want a full spoken record. The motion to amend recording practices passed 4–1 after S1 seconded the motion. The board also directed a technology adviser to arrange for video and audio recordings to be posted on the town website so the recordings remain publicly accessible.
