Pacific Ridge Elementary reports stronger ELA results, outlines SEL and attendance efforts
Summary
Principal Juli Wozniak reported that 51% of Pacific Ridge third graders met or exceeded state ELA standards last year (compared with 41% statewide) and described literacy interventions, Marzano professional development, SEL programming and attendance strategies.
Principal Juli Wozniak and Assistant Principals Elli Irish-Jones and Desiree Graetz presented Pacific Ridge Elementary’s academic progress, focusing on third-grade literacy and social-emotional learning.
Wozniak highlighted reading results: "for English Language Arts, at the State level 41% of students meet or exceed, and at Pacific Ridge last year 51% meet or exceed!" She credited teacher effectiveness and Marzano professional development as part of the improvement strategy, and described the use of STAR reading data and targeted supports.
On social-emotional learning and attendance, Irish-Jones and Graetz described PBIS, SEL activities and attendance interventions. Graetz explained self-efficacy in classroom supports: "self-efficacy would refer to knowing when to say I need help, or I'm having a problem." The administrators said math outcomes are at or above targets with iReady implemented and that continued staff development should support further gains.
The presentation included a seven-year enrollment chart and noted preschool programming started in 2021-22; while enrollment declines since COVID were acknowledged, Penrod said those trends do not affect district funding because the district is not in the State School Fund.
