Henderson County board signs onto NCACC legislative goals including LGERS expansion and behavioral health funding

The Board approved seeking authority to allow fire department employees to participate in the North Carolina Local Government Employee Retirement System (LGERS); to allow sheriff’s deputies to return to employment after retirement while retaining retirement benefits; to encourage state institutions to purchase North Carolina-grown produce; to support increased behavioral-health facilities in the state; and to seek repeal of a downzoning restriction placed on county government. Staff noted the submission deadline to the NCACC is Aug. 14, 2026, with the Association finalizing its agenda by early December.
