Kinderhook HPC awarded $13,000 National Park Service grant to update National Register nomination

Trustee Susan Patterson summarized findings from Simple Design Studios, which completed a survey and recommended broadening the village's National Register nomination beyond architectural criteria to include events, people and cemeteries such as the Persons of Color cemetery at Rothermel Park. Per Liz Martin, the National Park Service provides grants, technical guidance and training and awarded a $13,000 grant to update and expand the nomination.
Trustee Patterson recommended a special January meeting with the village attorney and possibly Simple Design Studios to review the survey in depth, followed by a public hearing and then a board decision on adopting any changes. The board discussed the potential to include mid-century resources and previously overlooked sites tied to the village's social and agricultural history.
