OSEA president urges focus on classified staff safety as bargaining approaches

At the Oct. 16 board meeting, OSEA President Sarah Reames provided a classified-staff perspective on workplace conditions and bargaining priorities.
Reames said classified staff have seen ongoing "physical and verbal aggression from students," and she urged continued attention to safety and transparent communication around budget and negotiations. She praised Interim Superintendent Grazioli for strengthening leadership and building trust while asking the district to improve data collection, reporting and collaboration on safety policies ahead of upcoming contract talks.
Board members acknowledged the seriousness of the safety concerns and discussed possible policy changes and data collection to support reporting and advocacy for classified employees.
