Elementary boundary shifts to move 103 students; district projects net loss of two teachers

Terry explained proposed elementary boundary adjustments that would move approximately 103 students out of Custer and into Waterloo (64) and Hollywood (39). She said the district will personally call each family to explain options and school-of-choice procedures and that families could choose to remain at their current school.
"So in shifting some boundaries, we would be moving approximately 103 students out of Custer," Terry said, adding that the district's planning anticipates 64 moving to Waterloo and 39 to Hollywood. Staff projected that the net effect on K–6 classroom teachers would be a reduction from 99 to 97 (a net loss of two teachers) once sectioning and enrollment flows are accounted for.
Terry described how principals will determine section counts and how the district will monitor opt-ins and opt-outs, and she said staffing adjustments may be stretched or altered if families elect to keep students at their current schools. The board requested a student-count-by-grade chart (through at least 2025) and asked staff to model different opt-in scenarios so trustees can see likely staffing consequences.
