The commission awarded a contract for ADA improvements in the Commission Chambers and City Hall lobby restrooms to Con Builders Inc. and directed staff to reject the proposal line-item to reinstall the current fixed chairs.
City Administrator Licata said bids were opened June 16 and the selection committee (which included Dwayne Ackerbloom and Jim Finley) recommended Con Builders as the most responsive proposer. Licata presented cost options: with movable chairs and a 10% contingency the construction portion would be about $45,368.40; reinstalling existing chairs would raise the total. "The cost for the construction project, including a 10% contingency, would be $45,368.40," Licata said. The commission voted to delete the line item and proceed with option A (movable chairs) and then approved the resolution awarding the bid consistent with that option; the motion passed 5–0.
Licata said the city budgeted $80,000 for the project and that movable chairs would provide more flexible space for programming. Staff said they plan to donate or auction the existing fixed chairs and to identify a storage/stacking location.
