Board hears English Learners report; district notes 13 recently arrived high-school students

Cate Blakesley presented the English Learners (ELD) annual report and described how the district screens students, classifies English Learners, and organizes instructional models. She said the ODE annual report for 2023–24 is posted on the district website and noted that the district receives only a nominal Title III grant to support ELD services.
Blakesley said the district has 13 recently arrived students at the high school who will require additional supports. Board member Jason Haag asked what data staff use to evaluate progress; Blakesley said she looks at math and ELA scores and graduation rates and recommended the board schedule a future meeting to dig into that data.
