Lighthouse Point approves fire, stormwater and solid waste special assessments

The commission conducted public hearings and adopted resolutions for three special assessments for fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, 2025. Finance Director Corey Olympio presented the fire protection special assessment, explaining the assessment is intended to fund approximately $2,068,720 of the city's fire protection budget and that the proposed residential assessment remains $300. The fire assessment resolution passed 5–0.
The commission also approved the stormwater special assessment (equivalent stormwater unit rate remaining at $300) and the residential solid waste collection assessment (properties with up to four residential units: $588.48 annually per unit; five or more units: $538.68 annually). Both measures were adopted by unanimous votes. Staff said the assessments will be transmitted to the tax collector in accordance with statutory deadlines.
