Terry said the Custer→Hollywood shift initially identified 39 students but, after accounting for grade roll and school-of-choice responses, the expected net move is about 29 students. The larger Custer→Waterloo shift was projected at 57 additional students for Waterloo after counting kindergarten projections and school-of-choice decisions.
Terry said staff called most families and mailed letters home to follow up; about a dozen families in each group had not been reached and would get mailed notice and continued calls. Board members asked how long families have to submit a school‑of‑choice form; staff said families may request a choice up to the start of school and the district will honor those requests where possible.
The redistricting changes are aimed at evening out class sizes across the district ahead of final staffing and class‑assignment decisions for the 2026–27 school year.
