Board receives reports on taxes, safety plan, bilingual evaluation and STSBA membership; teacher awarded small classroom grant
Summary
At the Sept. 23 special meeting trustees heard informational items: a $500 Texas Classroom Grant recognition, a delinquent tax-collection update noting retroactive homestead exemptions, a presentation on STSBA membership, emergency operations plan updates and the statutory bilingual/ESL annual evaluation.
Trustees heard several informational presentations during the meeting. The Board recognized Nianna Gustovich for securing a $500 Texas Classroom Grant (presented by Thelma Samaniego). Michael G. Cano of Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson LLP delivered the delinquent tax collection report and noted that most delinquent taxes have been collected but that retroactive application of homestead exemptions (up to two years) by the county is affecting district funds.
Ruben Cortez presented benefits of membership in the newly formed South Texas School Board Association (STSBA); Isaias Vidal presented updates to the district's Emergency Operations Plan (a TxSSC basic plan outlining district emergency organization and policies); and Dr. Nancy Montemayor presented the Bilingual Education ESL Program Annual Evaluation as required by Texas Education Code and the Texas Administrative Code §89.1265. These items were presented for information only and did not require board action.
