Valley View ISD trustees voted to attach the Tax Rate Calculation Forms to the district's FY 2025–2026 budget during a special meeting Sept. 23. Finance Director Sandra C. Martinez told the Board the budget was prepared before certified appraised values arrived and that staff worked with Hidalgo County to establish a no-new-revenue tax rate.
"Motion to approve the Tax Rate Calculation Forms as an appendix to the FY 2025-2026 Budget, as recommended by the administration," the record shows; the motion passed 4-0 with three trustees absent. Martinez explained the change is an administrative step to align the adopted budget with the county's certified values and to document the tax-rate basis for the coming year.
Why it matters: the tax-rate calculation determines whether the district will collect new revenue from rising property values or hold revenue flat; retroactive homestead exemptions and changes to appraised values were raised elsewhere in the meeting as a factor affecting district funds. The measure was approved with no dissent, and the tally was recorded as Yea: 4, Nay: 0, Absent: 3.
