District says $40 million needed for sewer lines; rehabilitation project underway

Director of Services & Program Development Ashley Davies told the Midway City Sanitary District board that she met with Congressman Derek Tran to discuss potential funding assistance for the district’s roughly $40 million sewer line infrastructure needs. Davies also reported that the district collected 505 mattresses and box springs in April as part of its recycling program.
District Engineer Milo Ebrahimi reported that the Sewer Main Rehabilitation Project has commenced and is expected to be completed within two months; he also provided updates on the Magnolia Street Siphon Repair Project. Director of Finance Gordon Copley said staff are preparing the FY 2025–26 budget and monitoring the WISE Agreement OCWR landfill tipping fees that affect operational costs.
The board did not take fiscal action on May 5 but directed staff to continue outreach for funding options and to report back with details at a future meeting.
