Planning and inspections staff briefed the council on permitting activity and pending land-split requests. Ken Lahr reported work with the city attorney and Planning Commission chair Amanda Hawkins on formal documents for land splits, consolidations, rezoning, variances and conditional use permits. The council was told accessory-building ordinance revisions (Ordinance 41) are under consideration for parcels larger than 10 acres.
Specific permit items included an accessory building request for 8407 County Road 131 (Josh Traut), a proposed driveway for Loren Traut at Peternell Farm, a land split at 809 County Road 2 South (Mitch Sand), and a land-split application from Mitch Pangerl for possible two or three parcels. An expired permit at 1206 6th Ave SE (Markgraff) requires a new permit fee of 50% of the original cost to continue construction.
Why it matters: land splits and ordinance changes alter property development rights and the permit-review workload for staff and the Planning Commission. The city is formalizing application processes and clarifying administrative vs. council review where appropriate.
Next steps: Ken and Amanda will continue working with the attorney on application documents and the Planning Commission will meet April 14 to consider active cases and ordinance updates.
