The St. Stephen City Council voted April 1 to accept a revised franchise agreement with cable/telecom provider MIDCO after the city attorney, Sue Dege, reviewed and returned preferred language. MIDCO accepted the city's revisions and the council approved the agreement on a voice vote.
Tom Vouk moved to accept the revised agreement and Steve Trobec seconded. The minutes record that "MIDCO was accepting of the city's language" and that Mayor Lisa Marvin and Clerk Heather Imdieke will sign and return the agreement to MIDCO.
Why it matters: franchise agreements set terms for use of public rights-of-way and service obligations for cable and broadband providers. The council's acceptance means the city's negotiated language will govern future operations under the franchise until renegotiated or superseded.
Next steps: Mayor Marvin and Clerk Imdieke will sign the document and Heather will send it back to MIDCO for finalization.
