Representatives from St. Stephen Fire & Rescue reported eight calls in September, bringing the year-to-date total to 76. Crew training for the month will focus on vehicle extrication, and anniversaries include Jimmy Schumer's 48 years of service. The department announced an open house on Oct. 7 from 6–8 p.m.
The department said Unit 900 has been sold for $15,350 and staff continue to solicit bids for a new fire truck. Council members Jeff Drais and Jeff Blenkush, and Council Member Gene Skaj are scheduled to attend a fire chiefs conference in Duluth Oct. 15–18.
