Fire department reviews rescue-truck bids and reports training, staffing updates

St. Stephen Fire & Rescue told the council it responded to five calls in July and recorded 54 calls for the year. Training this month will focus on pumping, hose testing is scheduled for Aug. 20, and the department’s picnic and group photo are scheduled for Sept. 27.
On procurement, staff reported two bids for a replacement rescue truck. The department had requested a stainless-steel body; one bid from Heimen Rosenbauer arrived as an aluminum-body bid. Councilmember Steve Trobec said, "they are eliminating themselves from consideration, by sending in an aluminum body bid," and the department plans another meeting to compare the two bids and review preliminary drawings before a selection is made. The council also discussed selling the retired Unit 900 once title documentation is provided so it can be posted on MNbid.mn.gov.
