At the Oct. 1 meeting Amanda Hawkins reported Planning Commission actions and a property-owner request that dominated the zoning discussion: Josh Traut told the commission and council he wants to build a large accessory structure for storage of excavating equipment on an 11.1-acre RR-1 parcel at 8407 County Rd 131. The proposed building sizes discussed were 60x120 or 60x180, yielding a requested total square footage of about 9,420, well beyond current accessory limits for RR-1.
Planning members and city officials discussed zoning alternatives including B-2 and Light Industrial and whether a rezone plus a conditional use permit or a text amendment would be required. City attorney Sue Dege and city engineer Randy Sabart advised the planning commission to develop ordinance language and sizing guidance before sending a proposal to council; they also suggested asking the owner to reduce the building size. Amanda Hawkins said planning will continue work and return recommendations to council.
