Roanoke Police Academy graduates Class 92 in badge-pinning ceremony

Chief Scott Booth and class representative Officer Emily Shively addressed the graduates, and awards were presented for academic performance and physical fitness. The ceremony concluded with family members pinning badges, Chaplain Gareth Stevenson offering a benediction, and the recruits taking the oath of office.
"This is gonna hurt," Lieutenant Susanna Camp told the graduates, referring to the rigor of the academy and the sacrifices required during training. She asked sworn personnel to join the graduates as they repeated the oath that affirms integrity, respect for human life and accountability.
Among the highlights: Austin Gregg earned the highest GPA (97.9) and was the first recipient of academy honors; nine of the 12 recruits achieved LawFit gold status (250 points or more); and Chief Booth formally named each new officer and charged them to wear the badge with humility and compassion.
