"This has broken friendships and divided the County," Layton said, and he proposed creating a county-held memorial account where any funds raised would be deposited and withdrawals would require receipts. Several board members—including John Knueppel and Mike Brandenburg—expressed support for finding a resolution that preserves the monument while addressing fundraising and oversight concerns. Janet Blade said she wanted the monument taken care of and discouraged airing "dirty laundry" at a public board meeting.
After discussion, the board voted to table formal action on the Veterans Memorial funds to allow additional work and consultation with stakeholders.
