City outlines police contract options and costs as Nov. 30 expiration nears

City officials told the Police Committee that the existing contract for county-provided police services expires Nov. 30, 2025 and provided the committee with hourly rates and annual projections for different staffing-hour scenarios. “The current contract expires on November 30, 2025,” Alderwoman Clark said while reviewing the options.
Under the current arrangement the city pays $55.05 per hour for 35 hours of service per week, which the report lists as $100,196.04 annually (or $8,349.67 per month). The county presented two lower-coverage alternatives: a 30-hour week (~$85,878.00 annually) or a 25-hour week (~$71,565.00 annually). Officials noted that either reduced-hours option would need approval by the Fulton County Finance Board before taking effect.
Committee members framed those figures against the city’s current levy funding available for policing and asked for additional reporting from the Sheriff’s Office on incident trends to help determine whether a reduced-hours model would materially affect public safety or claims against municipal insurance.
