Cuba advisory poll finds majority want to keep 35-hour weekly police contract

A majority of residents who attended the City of Cuba Police Committee meeting on Oct. 17 told the committee they want to keep the current contract for 35 hours of police coverage per week. Of the 14 residents present, nine voted to retain the present level, one favored reducing hours, two opposed continuing a contract, and two were undecided.
“This is meant to be an informative discussion with the public having the ability to ask clarifying questions and make informed input on the future of the police contract,” Alderwoman Clark said at the start of the meeting. The poll was nonbinding; Alderwoman Clark said the committee will use the community feedback to decide whether to draft a proposal to bring to the City Council for formal consideration.
The committee emphasized the poll was advisory and not a formal vote. Next procedural steps include compiling any additional information requested from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, then determining whether to present a contract recommendation at the upcoming City Council meeting on Nov. 11.
