The board recognized eight Students of Character from across Tarkington ISD campuses during the Dec. 15 meeting. Mrs. Jackie Owens introduced the honorees, noting that "out of more than 1,900 students attending TISD, eight students are being recognized tonight, and approximately 40 students will be recognized over the course of the school year." Named students included Faith Denney (Pre-K, Tarkington Early Childhood School), Walker Tanner (Kindergarten), Maribel Gonzalez (3rd Grade), Rylie McKay (5th Grade), Avery Lee (6th Grade), Landon Yates (6th Grade), Bristol McKeeby (9th Grade) and Alyssa Swaney (11th Grade).
Tarkington FFA students were recognized by Mr. Corey Taylor and ag teachers Addison Tisdel and Jordyn Dunn for placements and championships at the Trinity Valley Exposition, with sponsors and families commended for their support. Communications Director Stephanie Young and art teacher Lee Williams recognized student artwork winners, naming Macy Willoughby (designer of Tex's halter artwork) and Nicole Garcia (District Christmas Card winner).
Board members offered congratulations to the students and expressed appreciation for sponsors and teachers who support extracurricular and arts programs.
