Chase County canvassers accept most provisional ballots, partially count two after voting-machine glitch
Summary
As the Board of County Canvassers, commissioners accepted three provisional ballots, partially counted two that were affected by a touchpad/receipt glitch, and rejected one because the voter was not registered in Chase County. The board then signed the Aug. 4 primary abstract.
Chair moved the county into a canvass session and, after a report from the clerk, the board voted to accept provisional ballots 1 through 3, partially count ballots 4 and 5, and reject ballot 6. The clerk reported five provisional ballots were counted and explained that two ballots were affected by a touchpad/receipt printing glitch and therefore were only partially counted.
Clerk summarized the election totals: "We had 268 early voters in the office in the clerk's office and 486 election day voters," and said the five provisional ballots counted brought the total ballot count to 803. The chair also moved that the canvass be conducted in the Commissioner's Chambers and referenced KSA 25-3105 during that motion; the board approved the location and the disposition of the provisional ballots by voice votes.
