The mayor (speaker 3) said the village is still assembling budget numbers — including increases requested by the fire department, insurance and highway — and would not vote that night on whether to invoke the cap.
"We don't have set numbers yet... We're not gonna vote on this tonight on whether we're gonna break the cap or not," the mayor said. Trustees noted the override is a tool used in prior years and that adopting the local law would not obligate the village to exceed the cap; rather, it would preserve flexibility during final budget calculations.
The board closed the public hearing after brief resident input. The mayor called for a tentative budget hearing in April and said a tentative budget should be posted online in about three weeks for public review.
