Police report shows high clearance rate; council authorizes social-worker grant, MOU with Arbor Circle

Chief Andres reported an approximately 82% clearance rate for 2023 and said accreditation assessors will visit Nov. 14. Council authorized the City Manager to sign a MCOLES Police Social Worker Grant Agreement and approved an MOU with Arbor Circle to implement the program.
Chief Andres presented the Newaygo Police Department’s 2023 Annual Report and told council the department had “approximately an 82% clearance rate, which is well above the state average.” She said use-of-force incidents in the period resulted in no citizen or officer injuries and that assessors for the Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Program would be on-site Nov. 14 for a review.
Following the presentation, the council authorized City Manager Schneider to sign the MCOLES Police Social Worker Grant Agreement and related documents. Chief Andres said the city had been notified it was awarded the grant but that the hard-copy agreement had not yet been received. Council also approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Arbor Circle that, Schneider said, reflects the same funding figures as the grant award.
