Margaret Brown addressed commissioners to urge immediate action on a citizen‑drafted resolution that would treat discarded cigarette butts as litter and allow enforcement under existing litter laws. She said she provided a one‑page draft resolution to the clerk and that she would return to the board until it is adopted.
"I've given you a draft resolution... I gave it to you by email, and then I dropped it off the clerk's office this morning," Brown said, urging adoption and local enforcement. She described extensive volunteer cleanup work and told the board she will not stop advocating until the county takes action.
Separately Susan Esler, CEO of Bridal Marquette, thanked commissioners for approving a letter of support for a destination marketing grant and described county programs that collect litter and promote responsible tourism. "We have currently about 40 different community partners, municipalities, organizations working with us to help support responsible tourism," Esler said, highlighting programs that provide cleanup supplies and outreach materials.
The board said civil counsel will review Margaret Brown's draft resolution and asked staff to circulate marked up language; commissioners expressed general support for reviewing the proposal before formal action.
