“ So I make a motion permission to award Delcor Electric, the electric contract for the new outdoor bathroom at Shippy Park for 3,475,” Mayor (S4) said during the meeting before moving to hire the contractor; the motion carried on a voice vote.
The contract decision came amid robust public comment about whether installing a bathroom would increase park overcrowding or create safety issues. A resident (S3) said they were concerned the facility could attract additional traffic and nonresident use during busy months. The mayor responded that $25,000 from the town would help cover a handicap bathroom at no net cost to residents and encouraged opponents to submit petitions if they wanted to prevent construction.
Other residents urged the board to consider accessibility and health needs: one commenter (S5) said having a bathroom would help older residents and people with medical conditions enjoy the park. Trustees said staff would follow required processes and noted some project costs (electrical work) were small relative to the donated grant.
Next steps: the village will proceed with the awarded electrical work and incorporate the project into the capital plan; the board expects further public updates at upcoming meetings.
