Town presents 20-item hazard mitigation plan with ferry resilience, groundwater and wildfire priorities

Emergency-management staff and the hazard-mitigation working group presented a draft list of 20 proposed initiatives intended to guide the town's priorities for the next five years. Key items include ferry-operations continuity and resiliency planning for all ferry terminals; EMS access improvements for low-elevation or hard-to-reach neighborhoods; stormwater and drainage upgrades; emergency drinking-water distribution points; groundwater-monitoring and management; and shoreline-stabilization and nourishment projects for Shell and Crescent beaches.
The town emphasized the plan is a planning-level document intended to improve eligibility for grant opportunities (FEMA and other sources) and will be refined with Tetra Tech and county/state reviewers before final adoption. "We've developed 20 proposed mitigation initiatives," said the emergency-management coordinator, noting the draft annex will be submitted to Tetra Tech and then undergo state and FEMA review.
