Council reviews water plant upgrade, new wells and a gravity sewer project

City staff presented major water and wastewater capital projects proposed for FY27. For water, staff described a ~4,900 sq ft water shop addition and a multi‑package water plant upgrade that will increase capacity, drill two new wells and install transmission lines; design work is expected to occupy much of the year and will be bid in several packages.
On sewer, staff described a gravity‑sewer project identified years ago to relieve bottlenecks and prepare for development near the University of Iowa's new hospital; while some relief has come from diverting flow into Coralville's system, staff said a larger pipe will be necessary as development continues. Staff said water and sewer repayment assumptions and impacts are reflected in the financial model presented with the CIP.
