Broadband committee: County excluded from current Nextlink grant; board seeks provider timeline

Sara Ruholl, representing the Broadband Committee, told the board the committee spent 16 weeks pursuing grant options before learning that Cumberland County was not eligible for the current grant because Nextlink had been awarded a grant in 2018. "The broadband committee worked 16 weeks then found out the County was not eligible for the grant because Nextlink had been awarded a grant in 2018," Ruholl reported to the board.
The committee noted Nextlink's original contract runs through 2028 and said nearby Crawford County is confronting the same issue. The board approved a resolution requesting a timeline from Nextlink so the county can better understand project timing and future eligibility.
