Mayor: Two federal allocations could fund North Riverside police technology and water main work

Mayor Mengoni told the Village of North Riverside Board of Trustees that two items in recent House Appropriations Subcommittee markups would benefit the village if the federal process proceeds. "The Village’s project for police technology upgrades was included in the Subcommittee's final markup on 5/13/26 in the amount of $772,700," he said, and he added that "the Village’s project for watermain and lead service line replacements were included in the Subcommittee’s final markups on 5/13/26 in the amount of $746,848."
Mengoni characterized the allocations as preliminary steps, saying the inclusion in subcommittee markup is "the first of many essential steps in the federal process toward full funding of CPF projects into law." He said he will continue to update the board as the funding moves through the legislative and appropriations process. The mayor also noted that the spring state legislative session was largely uneventful for the village but flagged the governor's BUILD Illinois proposal — which would have affected local zoning authority — as likely to return in the fall session.
