St. Stephen OKs 5% relief association rate, confirms two fire captains

The city council approved a request from the St. Stephen Fire & Rescue Relief Association to set the rate of return for deferred members at 5% for 2026 and accepted a memorial donation package to the fire equipment fund totaling $16,895.
Council also heard that St. Stephen Fire & Rescue responded to 12 calls in January and has training planned (HAZMAT or drug awareness). Council approved the appointments of Jeff Jefferson and Peter Schumer as captains for the department following a motion by Councilmember Steve Trobec and second by Councilmember Tom Vouk. The relief association will continue using Edward Jones for investments and has engaged CDS as its new accountant. The council noted an expected supplemental reimbursement of about $4,000 to the city from the relief association.
