Committee approves CHIPS budget amendment, vehicle surplus and Tallmadge Tire contract; fleet use flagged for review

Kevin Rooney, Superintendent of Public Works, presented several transmittals that the committee approved 5-0: an authorization to amend the 2026 County Roads budget for additional CHIPS funding; authorization to declare Public Works vehicles surplus and transfer them to other departments; and an authorization to amend the contract with Tallmadge Tire.
Rooney said he will brief the Government Operations Committee about county vehicle usage and noted that while he orders county vehicles, department heads determine operational needs. Ed Hunt, Director of Compliance, observed that "some county vehicles appear to sit unused for extended periods" and suggested the county evaluate consolidation or increased sharing to improve utilization and reduce costs. The committee directed staff to continue discussion at the Government Operations Committee and provide additional information.
