Resident warns supervisors: three near-misses on county roads in one week

Resident Neil Engel described a series of hazardous encounters with high-speed vehicles on county gravel roads and urged the board and sheriff's office to take action. Engel recounted three incidents over several days in which drivers — including a semi and a pickup — approached at high speed, forcing him to take evasive action. "I've had 3 incidents in less than a week," Engel said, explaining that vehicles were using local roads as shortcuts and running stop signs.

Supervisors acknowledged the concern, noted jurisdictional complexities where city ownership or maintenance overlaps with county roads, and said they would have public works and sheriff's deputies review the sites. The board suggested options such as increased patrols, signage, temporary weight or access restrictions and coordination with adjacent city officials; no formal action or new budget allocation was taken at the meeting.
