Rolling Hills team wins lunchroom cook-off; judges cite mass-producibility

Rolling Hills students were named winners of Campbell Union’s fifth annual lunchroom cook-off after judges selected their dish, "Cheesy Goodness," for inclusion on the district’s lunch rotation.
"Our dish is called Cheesy Goodness," a Rolling Hills student said during the presentation. After tasting and scoring, a judge announced, "It was a tough decision, but the winner is Cheesy Goodness." The judge said the final choice hinged on which entry could be produced consistently across the district’s school sites at high quality.
Richard Fuentes, assistant director of expanded learning, had introduced the panel that judged the contest, noting it included district nutrition staff, a guest chef and student judges from the four participating middle schools. Students had one hour to prepare dishes they had developed as part of a multiweek curriculum in nutrition and kitchen safety.
Judges signaled the district will pilot the winning recipe in the lunchroom rotation and said other student dishes could be added later if the district obtains additional equipment. The announcement concluded the event with awards and planned photo opportunities for participants.
